Details
HEDGELEY POWBURN VILLAGE NU 01 NE (East side) 4/244 Plough Inn, with outbuilding to north II
Inn with outbuilding. Mid-C18, in several builds; late C19 rear wing. Squared tooled stone; right return large roughly-squared stone ; outbuilding squared stone with tooled dressings; rear wing snecked stone. Welsh slate roof.
Front 2 storeys, 3 bays: plinth, eaves cornice. Central flat-roofed porch; 12-pane sash windows, some renewed, with slightly-projecting sills. Roof hipped to left; coped right gable with stepped-and-corniced end stack. Right return shows renewed 30-pane sash stair window in rear wing.
Left return in 3 sections; centre and right parts have similar fenestration to front. Right bay is end of front block, with coped gable on left carrying stepped-and-corniced stack. Lower 2-bay centre has central panelled double doors under C20 rustic porch, and coped left gable with stepped-and-corniced end stack. To left a single-storey 5-bay outbuilding with boarded double doors under massive lintel and square window openings, boarded except for far left, which is blocked.
Coaching Inn in the late C18 or C19.
Front porch and flat-roofed toilet block, both of 1939, are not of special interest.
