GLANTON FRONT STREET NU 0714 (North side) Glanton Village 21/202 Garden walls to north of World Bird Research Station GV II
Garden walls, c.1796 incorporating earlier C18 wall on west. Squared stone. 3-metre high flat-coped wall on east is linked by lower wall at south end to stable/coach-house (q.v.) at rear of World Bird Research Station; similar wall on north. 2-metre high west wall has gabled coping, and runs past west end of Primrose Cottage (q.v.).
The walls originally enclosed a formal garden behind The Mansion (now the World Bird Research Station); since 1930 the area has been planted with a variety of both indigenous and exotic trees, and used as a bird sanctuary and study area.
