Schoolhouse and 'Parish Stable' (hearse house), 1762 by Dr. John Sharpe, vicar
of Hartburn. Coursed rubble and dressings except for tooled squared stone on
west return; slate roof. Gothick style. North front: projecting 3-storey
centre bay has late C19 sash below 1st floor 2-light window: trefoiled heads
to lights within ogee arch, raised stone surround. Round-headed recesses above.
Crenellated parapet has taller central section with roundel and ornamental arrow
loops. Lower flanking bays, to left with buttress, to right with late C19 sash;
stepped crenellated parapet. Rear elevation: central section has external stone
stair to 1st floor door, tall narrow window above, reverse-stepped gable. Bay
to right has segmental arch (to former hearse house) partly hidden by C20 glazed
porch; bay to left has boarded door. Various C19 sashes. Lean-to roofs,
reverse-stepped coping.
