Country house with attached stable court. 1801 by John Patterson. Ashlar with graduated Lakeland slate roof. Unified plan. Octagonal stable court with west gate tower; linking range to rectangular main block with canted bays on three sides and canted rear angles.

Entrance front has 2-storey, 3-bay linking range in centre. Open porch of paired Roman Doric columns. Tripartite doorway with segmental fanlight and radial glazing bars. 12-pane sashes on ground floor, 6-pane above. Plinth, sill strings and panelled 1st floor band. Moulded eaves cornice.

Higher main block to right has 12-pane sashes on both floors. Similar detail. West front, i.e. above roof of linking range is pedimented.

Stable block to left also has similar detail.

Shallow-pitched hipped roofs.

Tall entrance tower on west side over round-headed pedimented carriage arch; slightly-recessed upper stage has angle pilasters, cornice, blocking course and lead dome.

Interior: Hall has 2 fireplaces - one, wood of c.1750, Rococo style; the other white marble of c.1800.

Oval anteroom with domed roof light leads to full-height rotunda with lst-floor iron balustrade and dome with roof light; curved scagliola fireplace and seven doors in curved entablatures.

Drawing room has one shallow curved wall. Deep classical frieze and multi- moulded cornice; carved wood fireplace.

Circular domed lobby leads to octagonal library with built-in shelves and white marble fireplace with Ionic columns and classical scene.

Oval staircase hall has iron stick balusters to cantilevered spiral stair, and domed ceiling with roof light. Several other oval and semi-oval rooms. Good friezes, cornices, doors, fireplaces and shutters throughout.
