WALLINGTON DEMESNE WALLINGTON HALL NZ 0284 21/221 Clock Tower Gate (Formerly listed as clock 20.10.69 tower and archway at entrance to stable yard) I Gateway with tower, and flanking coach houses. 1754 by Daniel Garrett. Finely- tooled ashlar; slate and lead roofs. Elevation to courtyard: Plinth, central moulded round-headed arch flanked by paired Tuscan columns carrying pediment; tower above with large scrolled brackets buttressing returns, C18 single-handed clockface and moulded cornice, capped by cupola containing bell; drum of nine columns, lead dome with weathervane. Broad flanking bays each have similar round-headed arch with double doors and slatted tympanum flanked by recesses, domed below and square above; moulded cornice, low parapet. Flattened ball finials with spikes, on swept bases, at ends. To far left and right lower walls, with plinth and flat coping, returning to link with stable ranges (q.v.). North elevation: circular window with radial glazing in tower instead of clockface, flanking bays each have 3 pairs of recesses, domed below and square above; one pair of similar recesses in right return. Second old clockface on left return of tower,blind circular window on right. Central carriageway tunnel-vaulted; with glinters at each end, and a domed niche on each side.

The block was originally designed as a chapel; the original drawings,unsigned, remain in the Hall.
