II
Former Railway Station. Mid Cl9. Squared rubble with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, symmetrical. Central bay projects with half-glazed door under pedimented hood. 2-light mullioned window, each light an 8-pane sash, above, and steeply-pitched coped gable with kneelers. Flanking bays have similar 2-light windows. All openings have chamfered surrounds. Coped gables with kneelers. Ashlar end stacks have paired corniced chimneys set diagonally. Left return shows similar mullioned windows. To right single-storey former waiting room has later wood porch and C19 sash to right; right end stack with paired square corniced chimneys. The Alston branch of the Newcastle-Carlisle railway was opened in 1852'
