NY 84 SE ALLENDALE B6295 (West side) (Allenheads) 23/116 Disused furnace 40 metres south-east of Furnace Cottage II
Furnace chamber, mid C19. Squared rubble. Stone wall with a square-headed doorway opening into a barrel-vaulted chamber built into the hillside. A furnace here was used to draw air up an adjacent mineshaft, now capped (a semicircular embayment in the roadside wall probably represents the head of the shaft), and improve air circulation in the lead workings beneath.
