House, now shop. C16, clad in early C19. Timber-framed and stuccoed with hipped slate roof and one flat-headed dormer. 3 storeys and attic: 2 window front, glazing bar sashes in moulded surrounds, with entablatures and consoles on first floor. Iron balcony with lyre balustrade and anthemion decoration to first floor, over C20 double shop-front with central glazed door. Balcony carries lettering reading 'PRINTING WORKS'. Lettering reading 'W.E.BAXTER Ld' attached above first floor. Interior: Part of basement built of chalk blocks. Baxters' the Printers was established in 18O2 by John Baxter, whose son George Baxter developed the printing of colours with oils, (ex. inf. Friends of Lewes).
