GODALMING MINT STREET SU 9643 NE (north side) 12/180 No 26 (formerly listed as 23.2.70 No 24) GV II

Two houses, now one. Probably C17 and late C18-early C19; altered. C17 house timber-framed with painted brick infill (that in gable laid herring-bone), and later brick under-building, left return of painted Bargate rubblestone; later house on right of painted brick in Flemish bond. Plain tile roofs. Each house 2 storeys, 1 bay, the C17 house 2 bays deep, gable-end on and having: square-panelled timber-framing with lower tension braces and queen-post truss with V-struts on collar; a C20 3-light, small-paned window to each floor; ridge stack. Right-hand house has old 4-panel door under segmental brick arch to left, 3-light small-paned C20 window to right, and similar, smaller window to 1st floor. Left return (C17 house): blocked window to ground floor; small 2-light window at eaves; wall-plate visible. Interior: C17 house has parts of timber-framing visible, chamfered cross-beam on ground floor with chamfered small-scantling joists, and in roof 2 collared trusses with through purlins, bridle-jointed rafters and wind-braces at front. C20 rear extensions not of special interest. The property was formerly 2 houses, Nos 24 and 26. The deeds of No 26 give a date of 1585 for its first existence.
