Details
GODALMING NIGHTINGALE ROAD SU 9744 NW (east side) 8/186 No 22 (Nightingale Lodge) GV II
House. Mid C19, probably for J Moon (J &mww pers. comm.), altered and added to. Red brick in Flemish bond with painted stone dressings; plain tile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Symmetrical composition with chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, eaves band, plain cornice and coped parapet having end piers with hipped capstones. Central 6-panel door with 3-pane overlight in Tuscan portico with deep entablature and blocking course. Sashes with glazing bars, on ground floor with architraves, friezes and console-bracketed cornices; on first floor with raised plain surrounds rising into eaves band. Hipped roof. 2 stacks to each side, corniced and now rendered or hung with Welsh slate. Rear: segmental- arched windows, first floor retaining original windows; stepped dentilled eaves; paired, hipped gables. Interior: panelled doors and reveals. Straight-flight, open-string stair with stick balusters, columnar newel, and panelling below. Of the same design as No 24 (Clifton, q.v.).
