Details

GODALMING CROWNPITS LANE SU 9743 SW (west side) 15/89 Nos 2 and 4 (formerly listed as The 30.7.74 Busbridge Institute including incor- porated dwelling or dwellings under GV Brighton Road) II

Institute, now 2 houses. Dated 1885, for Ellis Duncombe Gosling of Busbridge Hall. Bargate rubblestone, part timber-frame with some tile hanging; plain tile roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Plinth; windows are wood-mullioned with leaded lights; first floor is timber-framed with rectangular panels to outer bays, the central bays tile-hung with cusped tile banding under bracketed pent roof. Doorways, on outer sides of central bays, have a board door, to left, and a C20 part-glazed door, to right. On each floor are windows of 3, 4, 4 and 3 lights, shorter on first floor. To centre of ground floor is a plaque which reads, 'this institute was presented to the parish of Busbridge for a remembrance of Dudley Gillespy Bois, Lieut R G A. Born 21st July 1889, died 4th Oct 1915 on active service off Gallipoli'. External stack to right end, and another to ridge between left bays, both of brick with chamfered, recessed, triangular-headed panels.
