GODALMING FARNCOMBE STREET SU 9745 SW (south-west side) 6/93 Nos 59, 61 and 63 23.2.70 GV II
House, now 3 dwellings. Probably 2nd 1/2 C16; added to and allowed. Timber frame with painted brick infill on rubblestone plinth; added bay on right (no 63) of painted Bargate rubblestone with brick dressings. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys with attic. 3-bay timber-frame range with 4th bay added to right. Wall posts, mid-rail, one arched brace and some lesser members of the timber frame survive. On ground floor, each cottage has a board door and C20 2-light window, and another mid-late C20 window inserted in bay 3. Four 2-light windows set under eaves, that to bay 1 having one diamond-leaded light. Feet of some old rafters visible at eaves. Four 2-light, tile-hung gabled dormers. Large external stack at left end of galleted rubblestoneat base, with tile offset and brick stack. Ridge stack between bays 2 and 3, and end stack on right. Left returns of galleted rubble- stone with small 2-light window on 1st floor to right of stack and tiny blocked square opening on left. Rear: timber-framing exposed at 2 central bays having large 1st-floor panels, that on left with blocked 3-light wood-mullioned window and an arched brace to its left. Interior: not fully inspected, but no 63 has exposed timber-framing, large-scantling cross-beam supporting old joists; on 1st floor large arch brace from rear wall-post to tie-beam with queen-post truss; former closing truss at right end has jewelled wall posts.
