GODALMING HIGH STREET SU 9743 NW (south side) 13/109 Nos 53 and 55 (Freeman Hardy Willis) GV II

Commercial premises. C16 or C17, altered. Timber-framed with brick infill, rendered at front; brick; some tile-hanging. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys, 3:1 bays with wing to rear left. C20 infill additions and rear range not of special interest. Left-hand 3-bay section has wide, late-C20 shop front with deep fascia, no windows above. Added bay on right has archway with steel girder and brick 1st floor with sash with glazing bars in flush wooden architrave. Rear: wing on right of brick and tile-hung with hipped roof; some old brick to main range. The right end of the left-hand section, visible inside the archway, has timber-framing comprising sole-plate, mid-rail and wall posts with an arched brace on left and later studs.
