ACOMB HIGH BARNS NY 96 NW 4/39 Group of farmbuildings to north-west of High Barns Farmhouse
GV II
Farmbuildings, mid-C19 remodelling of early C18 fabric. Rubble with tooled-and- margined ashlar dressings; graduated Lakeland slate roofs. L-plan block on north and east of yard, linked by wall to detached range on west. All parts have coped gables with moulded kneelers. North range 2 storeys, 4 bays: 2 pairs of segmental arches with 4 windows over and pigeon holes beneath eaves. Left return shows pair of chamfered loops with lancet above. East range 2 storeys 1 bay: stable door in chamfered alternating-block surround with part-slatted window on right; right return shows boarded door and evidence of heightening from steep C18 pitch. Rear elevation shows boarded doors, slit vents, and slab with circular aperture for drive shaft from former gin-gang.
West range 1 storey, 2 wide bays: double doors under segmental arch to right, boarded door in chamfered alternating-block surround to left, slit vent between. Left return shows chamfered segmental arch with lancet in gable above. Included for group value.
