ROCHESTER CATCLEUGH NT 70 SW 7/76 Dam, overflow bridge and valve house at Catcleugh Reservoir GV II

Dam, overflow bridge and valve house. 1891-1904 by T. and C. Hawksley, engineers,for the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company.

Earth-filled dam with rock-faced parapet. Towards the west end the valve house: single storey, one x 3 bays with tall segment-headed openings; projecting eaves on close-set moulded corbels and hipped roof.

At west end overflow bridge with 5 broad shallow segmental arches. Boldly rock-faced invert.

The valve house has original machinery of 1903 by Glenfield and Kennedy of Kilmarnock.
