14/44 Chollerton farm cottages, stable and carriage house GV II
Farm cottages, carriage house and stable. Mid C19. Snecked rubble with Welsh slate roof. Row of six 2-storey,2-bay cottages with lower 1-bay carriage house to left and 2-storey, 4-bay stable on left forming an L-shape on left return.
Cottages have doors to rear in later lean-to extensions. On the front each cottage has one original 16-pane sash on ground floor, 2 similar sashes on first floor and one mid C20 iron casement on ground floor. Gabled roof with flat coping and 3 large stone, corniced ridge stacks.
Carriage house has double plank doors in segmental arch.
Stable has plank door with overlight in alternating-block surround in 3rd bay. Pitching door over. Windows in similar surrounds; those in first 2 bays are part louvred and part glazed with small panes. 4th bay was a bothy and has 16- pane sashes.
Cottages are an important example of industrial farm housing.
