11/97 The Allgood Cottages
II 2 almshouses. Inscribed
The Gift of George Allgood October 1906
but dated 1908 on rainwater head. Ashlar with half-timbered gables and Lakeland slate roof. Single-storey, semi-detached cottages. 6 bays in all. Plank doors in outer bays then small-paned casement windows. The roof projects over these bays to form porches, supported in corners by chamfered piers with broached angle buttresses. The 2 centre bays project under ½-timbered cross gables and have canted bay windows. Between the bay windows is the date and inscription, beneath the Allgood crest, in a panel framed by bolection moulding. Gabled roof with deep eaves. 2 rendered ridge stacks with wide cornices.
