SIMONBURN B 6320 NY 87 NE (North side, off) 4/116 Park End 15/4/69 GV II
Country house. Late C18 centre with c.1830 flanking wings and c.1900 additions. Dressed stone centre and ashlar additions; graduated green slate roofs and dressed stone chimneys. Centre block with flanking wings at right-angles; right wing projects further and has c.1900 extension on rear. 2-storey garden front. 3-bay centre with sashes and doorway at right in raised surrounds. Left wing has giant angle pilasters (rusticated on ground floor), corniced string between storeys, 2-storey canted bay with replaced sashes in architraves and entablature with deep cornice on brackets. Right wing is 2 bays wide and has giant angle pilasters, canted ground-floor bay with 12-pane sashes in architraves and balustraded parapet, 2 sashes above and a wide entablature. Centre block has pitched roof. Left wing has hipped roof. Right wing has steeply-pitched hipped roof and tripartite dormer with pediment over centre light. Conjoined, cross-axial ridge stacks with corniced tops. Both wings have 3-bay outer returns with similar details. Rear: centre block re-faced and Venetian stair window added c.1830; 3-bay extension in similar style on right wing; single-storey canted entrance bay with distyle Tuscan porch and balustrated parapet added c.1900. Interior has late C19-early C20 fittings.
This building should not be confused with Little Park End (Item 4/115).
