SHOTLEY LOW QUARTER A 691 (South Side) NZ 05 SE Shotley Bridge.
17/237 Shotley Hall Stable Block and attached wall to south-west.
GV II
Stables, probably 1863 by Thomas Wilson. Coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roofs with some leadwork. L-plan.
2-storey range facing entrance: 2 sections, each 3 narrow bays. Left part has 2 carriage doors with 4-centred arches. Above left, loading door; centre large corbelled-out bargeboarded gable over round pitching eye with 3 slits below. To right 2 small windows with shouldered lintels. Right part has recessed boarded door at right, centre 2-light sash, left external stair (with trough in 4-centred recess below) to door with 2 sets of paired sashes on its right. Left part has Gothic lead spirelet over ornamental wood ridge vent. Right part has ridge stacks.
1-storey right section, 7 irregular bays. In bay 3 projecting cross- gabled carriage entrance with 4-centred arch. Plain windows to either side, 2 modern garage doors at right. Dovecote with shingled spire and vane on roof, behind arch. 4 conical lead vents on ridge.
Wall on left of yard has left-of-centre shouldered arch.
