11/157 Woodhead Farmhouse GV ll

House, originally two dwellings. C17, altered. Rubble with dressings and roughly-shaped quoins; Welsh slate roof, two brick stacks. South elevation in 2 sections: left part 2 storeys, 2 bays; lower windows retain lintels of 3- and 4-light mullioned windows, upper windows (including narrow window to far right) with projecting brick sills. Steeply-pitched roof with end stacks. Left return shows massive stepped stack flanked at attic level by narrow chamfered lights, one with old iron bar. Lower right part 2 storeys, 2 bays, irregular; to far left renewed door in chamfered surround with flat-pointed head in square frame, and traces of possible blocked doorway above; lower windows, that to right part-slatted, with timber lintels and brick sills, upper 8-pane Yorkshire sashes. Right return shows boarded door with 4-pane Yorkshire sash and renewed 4-pane sash with timber lintel above. Interior; walls 0.75 metre thick, old collar-beam trusses. The east part of the house may be an unusually easterly bastle.
