HOOK NORTON SOUTHROP ROAD SP3532 (West side) 12/64 Southrop House
08/12/55 - II House. C17. Wing dated P/RS/1707. Coursed, regular ironstone rubble. Stone slate roof laid to diminishing courses. Stone copings. 3 paired stone stacks at end and ridge. L-plan with wing projecting towards road. C17 house: 3-units and one storey plus attic. C18 wing: 2-unit and 2 storeys plus attic. C17 house to right probably refenestrated in C18, with wooden mullioned and transomed windows with crown glass. Two stone mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops survive on the ground floor elevation to the road. Main entrance now into the left wing which has a double-gable front forming an M- shaped roof. The three floors are lit by 4-light wooden mullioned and transomed windows with crown glass. Rear: 3 stone mullioned windows have hood moulds with renewed C20 stonework. C20 bay window. Interior: 2-unit plan to original house is still discernible. Stop-chamfered beams. History: The Treadwell family owned the house at the end of the C18. The date plaque on the rainwater head is attributed to Richard and Sarah Parkes.
