NORTH ASTON SP42NE 5/269 Bradenstoke Barn

GV II Barn, converted to stables, now house. C17, altered mid/late C18 and C20. Coursed squared limestone with ashlar dressings; Welsh-slate roof. 6-bay plan plus subsidiary range. 2 storeys. 5-window C18 front of main range with ashlar storeybands and plain parapet, has renewed sash windows wider at first floor with margin lights, and has a wide segmental-arched entry in bay 2; the central first-floor opening was formerly a loft door and is now blocked. Right gable parapet of steep-pitched roof retains C17 moulded copings. Lower subsidiary range to right was partly rebuilt C20 but retains a gable parapet with projecting moulded kneelers. Rear has C20 windows plus a re-used C16/C17 oak door. Interior: 6-bay C17 roof with 7 queen-strut trusses supporting 2 rows of butt purlins, the upper row with straight wind braces; 2-light stone-mullioned gable window, now internal. One of the ancillary buildings to North Aston Hall (q.v.).
