Farmhouse now house. Probably late C17/early C18, partly remodelled and probably
extended c.1830. Coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings;
Stonesfield-slate and thatch roofs with brick stacks. 4-unit plan. 2 storeys
plus attic. 3 bays to right of 4-window front have a regular arrangement with
central panelled doorway, which has matching panelled reveals and a columned
ashlar doorcase, below a 12-pane sash and with 16-pane sashes in the flanking
bays. Wide bay to extreme left has earlier cross windows with wooden lintels,
themselves replacements for wider windows. Steep-pitched roof has stone gable
parapets, and has stacks to left of centre and to both gables. Hipped-roofed
single-storey bay against right gable wall has a thatched roof. Rear has further
cross windows to the 2 left bays. Interior: left unit contains a large open
fireplace, flanking spiral stair, a stop-chamfered spine beam, and C18 doors, '
shutters and cupboards; C19 section has elaborate architraves and ceiling
cornices, and contains a large stair hall with a wide stair, the balustrade of
which combines ornamental cast-iron and stick balusters below a mahogany
handrail; butt-purlin roof. Probably originally a 2-unit plan with a central
through passage.
