SHENINGTON WITH ALKERTON ALKERTON SP 3642-3742 Barn House, Music Room and 7/56 08/12/55 attached wall to rear (Formerly listed as Barn House with (formerly Anderton's Farm) including Barn and Farm Buildings) GV II House, music room and attached wall to rear. Farmhouse now house. C16 with C17 and C20 additions, and restoration. Squared, coursed ironstone. Steeply pitched stone slate roof. Stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. 3 stone ridge and end stacks with blue brick shafts. 3-unit plan plus wing forming L-plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 4-window range. Entrance approximately central has a doorway with a basket arched head and moulded jambs. Plank door, hood mould and diamond shaped label stops. To right a 4-light stone mullioned window and to left a 5-light similar window, mostly with hood moulds and label stops, metal casements and wrought-iron casement fasteners and springs. 2 rectangular windows irregularly placed above and to left of entrance mark position of staircase. First floor has a 2-light casement with wood lintel and 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows with similar detail to ground floor windows. Stone slated rectangular bread oven projection on right. Left probably C16 kitchen wing has restored 2- and 4-light stone mullioned windows. Hipped roof dormer. Rear. Entrance to left has a doorway with a basket arched head. Ground and first floors have 2- and 3-light wood casements or wood mullioned and transomed windows. 4 gabled roof dormers with small casements with lead cames, crown glass and wrought-iron casement fasteners. Interior noted as having a wide stone fireplace with moulded jambs and similar fireplaces on first floor. Cottage now music room. C17/C18 with C20 alterations. Squared, coursed ironstone. Red tile-roof. Renewed stone end stack. 2-unit plan. Single storey plus attic. Elevation to road has two 3-light wood mullioned windows with wood lintels and a similar 2-light attic window, Wall. C17-C18. Squared, coursed ironstone with stone coping. approximately 2 metres high. (VCH: Oxfordshire: Vol IX, p44)
