BANBURY OXFORD ROAD SP4540SW (East side) 9/143 Nos.25 to 31 (odd) (Banbury 31/07/75 Moat House Hotel) (Formerly listed as Nos.25 to 49 (odd) GV II

Hotel incorporating row of houses standing on a raised terrace set back from Oxford Road. c.1840-50. Brick, stucco fronted, slate roofs, brick end and ridge stacks. 2 storeys plus attics and basements throughout. Nos.25 and 27 to left: partially rusticated ground floor; 2-storey bay window with balustrade; sashes with glazing bars and semi-circular headed windows with glazing bars. Similar windows to first floor including some sashes with moulded stone surrounds and cornices and consoles. Similar windows to attic floor including 2 dormers with segmental gables. No.25 has pedimented bay. Wide eaves soffit, moulded bands to first and second floors. No.29: entrance reached via stone steps. Stone porch. C20 doors. Entrance is flanked by sashes with stone surrounds. 3 sashes to first floor. 3 half-dormers with segmental gables. Flanking pilasters through first and attic floors. Pillars flank central sashes. Wide eaves soffit. No.31: central entrance has Tuscan doorcase, panelled reveals, 4-panelled door and overlight. Entrance is flanked by a canted bay window to right and sash to left. 3 cased stone sashes to first floor with glazing bars. The central sash has a cornice on consoles. 2 half-dormers with raking roofs. Wide bracketed eaves soffit. Interiors not inspected.
