DORCHESTER HIGH STREET SU5794 (West side) 5/89 No.55 18/07/63 (Formerly listed as house adjoining Bullyn to S)
GV II*
House. 1610 on front, extended C18. Timber framing with rendered infill on clunch rubble plinth; limestone ashlar and brick; old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. 2-unit plan, with rear outshut. 2 storeys plus attics. 6-window front is double-jettied and has moulded bressumers and scroll brackets carved with acanthus and Ionic capitals. At ground and first floors large leaded casements replace oriels for which mortices remain, and are flanked, at first floor, by high-level, 3-light ovolo-moulded mullion windows, restored C20 with diamond glazing. At ground floor similar windows are only on the inner sides and there is an inserted 4-panel door to extreme right. "1610/IH" is inscribed on a stud. Large stack with 4 diagonal shafts rises from the roof slope above the central bay. To left is a single-storey C20 extension. Outshut is of brick on an ashlar lower storey and has dormers. Interior not inspected.
