GARFORD SU49SW 8/85 Venn Mill House and attached 11/10/76 outbuildings (Formerly listed as Venn Mill House including attached barn and outbuilding)
GV II
Mill house, now house. Early C17, remodelled late C18 and late C19, Uncoursed limestone rubble; gabled late C19 tile roof; brick lateral stack to left and stone ridge stack finished in brick to right. T-plan, with cross wing to left. 2 storeys: 4-window range front has 2-window gable end of left wing. Right range: late C19 four-panelled (2 glazed) door adjoining cross wing: segmental brick arches over door and C20 casements: first floor in late C18. Stable/cartshed to right of limestone rubble and of one storey and attic with gabled stone slate roof: front of central covered way, blocked in late C18, has late C18 two-light chamfered wood-mullioned casement: rear entry blocked in C20. Interior: left wing has chamfered beams, C17 chamfered oak doorway, cupboard with butterfly hinges and fireplace with chamfered stone lintel and saltbox to left: first floor has chamfered beams and C17 plank doors: remodelled floor. One-unit range to right has chamfered and stopped beam, and C17 plank door adjoining fireplace with bread oven. Stable/cartshed to right has 2-bay roof with closed post and pad truss of elm. Subsidiary features: weatherboarded byre to right with hipped old tile roof. (National Monuments Record, for measured drawings).
