GV II*
House. Late C15/early C16, with late C18/early C17 three-bay wing to left and later C17 bay to right. Rendered front over timber framing (exposed on left gable wall) and right bay of coursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof; brick stack to left, stone stack finished in brick to rear right. Original plan form unclear: house remodelled as central staircase plan in late C17. Two storeys; 7-window range. C20 door; fine carved brackets to late C17 plastered shell hood. C20 casements; label moulds and chamfered surrounds to 3-light windows right of door; late C15/early C16 two-light stone-mullioned ogee-headed window reset in right bay. Gabled roof; large rear lateral stack and ridge stack to left. Late C15/early C16 four-centred moulded blocked doorway reset to rear of right bay. To rear right is late C18 two-storey, 2-window range of coursed limestone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, hipped old tile roof and segmental brick arches over sashes; similar taller, gabled wing with C20 casements attached to left. C20 brick and tile extension to left. Interior: Chamfered beams to left. Hall and landing have large C17 moulded plaster cornices. First floor has mid C18 panelling with bolection-moulded panel over fireplace to left; front wall of late C15/early C16 block has exposed timber framing and springing for 3-bay chamfered arch-braced collar-truss roof, with curved windbraces. Closed timber-framed truss and collar-truss with clasped purlins to left. Denchworth Manor is situated within a moated manorial site close to the church.
