HINTON WALDRIST SU39NE 3/109 Church of St. Margaret 21/11/66 GV II*

Church. Mid C13, remodelled late C13, when south transept added, and c.l880. Random limestone rubble; stone slate roof; stone stack. Cruciform with west tower. Late C19 reticulated style 3-light east window. North wall of chancel has mid C13 roll-moulded pointed arch flanked by late C19 one-light and 2-light C13 style windows. South wall of chancel has late C13 one-and 2-light windows. South transept has late C13 two- and 3-light windows, and C15 label mould over two late C19 lancets in west wall. North transept has late C13 two- and 3-light windows. North wall of nave, rebuilt in late C19 has central lateral stack flanked by C13 style 2-light windows. South wall of nave has 2 late C13 two-light windows flanking late C19 porch; C13 pointed chamfered arch to south door adjoining stoup. 3-storey west tower has angle buttresses, late C13 two-light windows and a mid C13 lancet in west wall; crenellated parapet with face masks. Gabled roofs to nave and chancel. Interior east window has reset stained late C19 glass inserted 1984 in memory of Airey Neave MP; other stained glass is late C19. Loder family wall tablets, including John Loder, d.1701, flanked by cherubs heads and fruit and flowers in scrolled surround. 4-bay arch-braced collar truss roof, probably late C19. Double-chamfered chancel and transeptal arches. South transept has piscina and late C19 four-bay arched-braced collar-truss roof. Nave has late C19 Decorated style font and pulpit late C19 six-bay arch-braced collar-truss roof amd moulded pointed arch doorway to west tower: mid C13 lancet over doorway.
