Endowed in 1641 by Sir Henry Martin as almshouses but now entirely C19 in character with the remodelling of the original 8 houses and the addition of 2 more to the E in 1850. Built of rubble stone with a brick attic and brick dentil cornice and a gabled stone tiled roof with a stack at each end on the side wall, that to the W of stone, that to the E with a brick cap. Further stone stacks with brick caps to the rear. 1 storey and attic. All the cottages have been modernized with 2 light casements to the attic and 2 light windows under wood lintels to the ground floor. The doors to each pair of cottages are side by side underneath a gabled and machine tiled porch and are of plank and batten type. The 1850 cottages (No. 8) have gabled dormers with 2 light, 2 pane casements, a roughcast attic storey and a glazed porch.
