Gates, gate piers and wall to St Mary's Churchyard

II

Gates, gate piers, walling. Early C18. Two wrought iron gates set to rubble stone walls about 8 ft high plus rich classical moulded coping; returned flanking walls faced each end boldly rusticated quoins, and cappings cut square on inner return face not assimilated to coping. Churchyard walls about each side, to Vicarage wall (q.v.), south, and to the Manor House, north; in mixed rubble or squared stone with flat copings; total 170 ft run. Wall adjacent to Manor House (q.v.) contains gate under elliptical opening with keystone and flat coped top in rendered stone, set between piers in squared and cut stone with moulded cappings crowned by large stone ball finials - about 20" diameter. Gates provided formal entry to south porch of church.
