CRANBROOK WILSLEY POUND TQ 7837-7937 (west side) 8/299 9.6.52 The Old Barracks (formerly listed as The Barracks) - II
Cloth hall, now house. C15, altered in C16 and late C19. Timber-framed with weatherboarded cladding on ground floor, and tile-hung on first floor, swept out as bellcast over ground flo cornice. Plain tiled hipped roofs. Central hipped dormer. End projecting stack to right, and stack to left and main stack to rear to left of centre. 2 storeys and attics. Slightly irregular 4 window front, very large late C19 metal-framed lattice casements. Doorway to right of centre with wide half-glazed Tudor arched moulded door surround and C18 flat hood over on brackets. Doorway with flat hood on right end. C19 extensions to rear including hipped wing to left and range of 4 gables to right. Interior: 4 bay frame with 2 bay crosswing addition. Heavily jowled wall posts with curved braces to ground floor. Roll moulded ceiling beamns. Plank and muntin panelling in dining room.
