Walls, gate piers & railings adjoining Lowther Lodge

GV II

Walls, gate piers and railings forming north entrance to Lowther Park. 1877 by James Mawson of Lowther for the Earl of Lonsdale. Calciferous ashlar piers and walls, with cast iron railings. 2 low L-shaped walls adjoining Lodge. Hexagonal piers with shaped caps at road entrance and for pedestrian gate; square angle pier. Low wall on chamfered plinth with moulded coping under patterned cast iron railings. Further right entrance to form track has hexagonal piers with pyramidal caps. C20 wrought iron gates are not of interest. Listed for group value with lodge adjoining.
