4/11 Remains of Heydon 6:3:59 Hall

House, now ruinous but being rebuilt at time of survey. Probably second half of C16, with later addition. Flint with stone and brick dressings. Plan now lost, but position of doors suggests screens passage plan. Wall c.8m long. Stone quoins to right. Central 2 storey porch with stone quoins; chamfered archway with imposts and hood mould; side walls of porch with C20 timber mullioned windows with C20 brick dressings. Above the archway are 3 panels with shields set in triangular pattern; gable being built at time of survey. Chamfered stone doorway to house. To left of porch evidence of C16 brickdressed opening; now C20 mullion and transomed window. Wall repaired to right of porch; one repaired square-headed window with stone mullions of 3 lights with curved heads; some stone rubble. Wall continues to right for approximately 9m with brick quoins; repaired 4-centred arch window with hood. Rest of walling C20; roofs C20. C20 rear wall with reset stone doorway with 4-centred arch; in original position opposite entrance door. Interior. Said to have a section of tiles; now below C20 concrete floor. Cozens-Hardy, B.
