KNAPTON MUNDESLEY ROAD TG 23 SE (west side) 3/74 Knapton House - II

House, c.1800. Gault brick with slate roof. East facade of 2 storeys in 5 bays, the second and fourth bays broken forward. Facade articulated by 4 colourwashed giant Ionic pilasters with the capitals further enriched by acanthus leaves. Central panelled door approached through semi-circular porch on 2 Roman Doric columns and 2 pilasters. Above door is a fanlight, above porch an iron balustrade. Round-headed ground floor sashes with glazing bars below gauged arches. 2 central windows within arched recesses. 4 first floor sashes with glazing bars and central balcony door within rendered architrave. Deep timber eaves cornice dentiled in centre below pediment. Hipped roof with 2 symmetrically placed stacks on rear roof slope. Returns also distinguished by giant corner pilasters and bowed walls, shallow to south and deeply bowed to north. Rear block of irregular but predominantly square plan illuminated through square-headed sash windows with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. Eaves cornice and roof as facade.
