CHEDGRAVE LANGLEY PARK TG 30 SE 2/3 Former stable Block 25.9.51 to Langley Park

G.V. II

Former stable block, now school classrooms. c.1750 by Matthew Brettingham. Red brick with hipped slate roofs. 1½ storeys, arranged around a courtyard; 9x5 bays. South facade symmetrical, 9 bays, with taller central archway to courtyard: semicircular arch with rusticated surround and key block, arch tympanum now infilled. Platband above arch with central blind segmental window opening. Saw-tooth brick eaves. Side wings of four bays each with pilasters dividing bays. 2 and 3-light C20 casements inserted under flat lintols. String course at parapet level; rebuilt parapet with ball-finials above pilasters. Some blind window openings on courtyard elevations.
