HEDENHAM STONE STREET TM 39 SW 6/78 Hill Farmhouse 12-8-83 II
House. C16 and C17 modification; under extensive renovation at time of survey. Timber frame with C20 blockwork infill. Roof partlyre-clad in pantiles. Two storeys and attic; cross passage plan modified to lobby entrance in C17. East wall has 6-light diamond-mullion window at first floor; small 3-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions. 2 and 3-light C19 casements with chamfered frames. Two C20 entrance frames. Off-centre axial stack. Gabled C17 staircase tower to west of stack with oak winding newel stair. 4 and 6-light mullion windows in west wall. Square-headed 'service' door openings at north end of hall. Evidence for earlier queen post roof. Tie beams with stepped run-out chamfer stops. Butt-purlin roof with diagonal wind bracing.
