GELDESTON THE STREET TM 39 SE (south side) 7/48 The Old House GV II

House, C18 with possibly earlier core. Red brick. Pantiled roofs, hipped at north end. Two storeys and cellar to north, 2 1/2 storeys to south; double pile plan. East facade in two sections, probably two builds: 2 1/2 storeys to the left, two windows wide. Sashes with glazing bars, rubbed arches over openings. Ground floor canted bay window with large cross-casement with glazing bars; lead flat roof behind parapet. Half-glazed panelled entrance door with semicircular fanlight with decorative glazing bars; square-headed door surround with panelled pilaster-strips and console brackets. Later elliptical roofed trellis porch with polygonal columns. Wooden modillion eaves. Two attic dormers with sashes and cambered roofs. Off-centre chimney stack astride ridge. Right-hand side two storeys of three unequal bays; sashes with glazing bars and rubbed brick arches. Right-hand ground floor window matches that in canted bay. Modillion cornice below eaves parapet. Off-centre stack on ridge line; external stack on north wall. North elevation has three first floor sashes with glazing bars; one blind opening and one lunette and ground floor level. Small hipped slated single storey projection. South wall with double gable, two sashes in each; both gables parapeted, with tumbling-in on south-east gable. Rear elevation has irregular fenestration of sashes with glazing bars; 6-panel entrance door with tall segmental-headed fanlight with glazing bars. Two attic dormers, flat roofed, with 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars. Cornice with block- modillions. At the north-west corner, a lean-to against the parapeted north wall, roof pantiled and glazed. Water pump on west wall dated 1784.
