Church Farmhouse
II*
Late medieval and early C17. Flint, ashlar and brick rear wall. Other walls
all brick. C19 decorative plaintiled roof coverings. 2 storeys with attic.
Off-centre 2-storey porch an early addition. Medieval staged buttresses
with ashlar dressings along rear wall associated with 2 blocked pointed windows
with ashlar dressings and brick relieving arches. Angle buttresses at north
west corner. C17 window openings on facade with chamfered reveals and inserted
C19 mullioned and transomed frames. Small bricks in English bond. 3 wide
timber-framed attic gables. C19 extension to side probably replaces C17 out
shut. West gable rebuilt. 3 C17 polygonal chimneys on east gable. C17
external stack added to rear wall. Winding stair with facetted timber newel
opposite entrance : turned landing balusters in attic. Ogee stops on principal
beams and fireplace lintel. C17 roof with cambered collars staggered butt-
purlins, clasped purlins with reduced principals and intermediate ties.
Contemporary fireplace with shallow arched head in attic.
