FRITTON & ST. OLAVES BECCLES ROAD TM 49 NE (south side) 10/30 The Bell Inn (formerly listed in 27.11.54 Herringfleet CP) - II
House and Public House. Late C16, altered C17, C18 and C20. Brick and some flint. Earliest part timber framed. Corrugated tiles to roof. 2 storeys. Western part of north side lit through a 4-light ovolo moulded ground floor timber casement. First floor jettied and timber framed : close studded and with brick nogging of C17. One 3-light diamond mullioned window, a single light casement and a 3-light C19 casement. Eastern part of north side largely of C17 brickwork and later openings : C19 door and canted bay window and 2 C20 casements; 2 early C19 leaded casements to first floor. Gabled roof with ridge stack left of centre. C16 east gable, partly of flint. C18 stepped external stack and, beside stack, a blocked arched window. South side of early C17 English bond brickwork pierced by assorted casements and sashes. C18 2 storey gabled porch in centre. 2 storey gabled C18 cross wing to west. Interior. Rectangular late C16 chimney piece to west wall with multiple roll mouldings. Spine beam and bridging beam in western part are chamfered and tongue stopped. Remainder of interior much altered.
