Shown as 2a and No.4 on Ordnance Survey map. House, shop and attached reading room, now house and studio. House and shop probably early C18 remodelled early C19. Reading room is mid C19. Ironstone ashlar and squared coursed limestone with slate roof. House originally 2-unit plan, then converted to single-unit shop at ground floor. 3 storeys. 2-window range of sashes with glazing bars under stone lintels with keyblocks. Square bay shop window to left with glazing bars. Central panelled door with removable upper panel. Chamfered plinth. Brick stacks at ends. Shutter box and panelled shutters to shop window to far left. 3-window range attached to right was used as a reading room. Sash window with glazing bars under gauged stone heads at ground floor. Carriage arch to left of centre has segmental head. Rear of house has 6-panel door with glazed top-lights and fanlight with glazing bars. Single-unit cottage attached to rear is now outbuildings. Interior: ground floor of house has some C19 shop fittings. Early C19 staircase with stick balustrade. Open fireplace to rear has stone lintel with keyblock.
