DINGLEY CHURCH LANE SP78NE (East side) 3/33 The stables, The Coach House, 14/10/74 Hakewill Hall and attached railings (Formerly listed as The Coach House and stables. Railings to courtyard and stables) GV II Stables, coachouse, laundry and attached railings, now 3 dwellings. Said to date from 1790. By Henry Hakewill. Lias ashlar with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. 3 linked blocks forming 3 sides of a courtyard. Centre block was coachouse of 2 storeys. 3-window range of sashes with glazing bars under gauged stone heads, those at ground floor inserted C20 to replace carriage openings; plain pilasters between. Limestone band between floors and plain panelled limestone pilasters at corners. Shallow gabled roof with oversailing eaves and dentilled cornice. Central wooden cupola with clock face and weathervane. Small stone stacks at ends. Flanking wings, formerly the stables, of one storey with hayloft, now attic over. Each of 5 bays with centre bay breaking forward with an open Tuscan pediment over, supported at corners by plain limestone panelled pilasters. Central square-head openings now have C20 doors and part-glazing. Arch-head openings above, formerly to haylofts, now glazed. 2-window range of lunettes to either side of centre bays have glazing bars and limestone surrounds. Circular windows to former hayloft above have limestone surrounds. Limestone band between floors. Hipped roofs with oversailing eaves supported by pairs of moulded wood brackets. Plinth block at apex of each pediment. Linked to coachouse by walls with arch head openings. Gable ends to left and right of each stable block have blank lunettes with circular window above. Central rear extension of "Hakewill Hall has gable treated as an open pediment. Building to rear of "The Stables" in similar style was formerly the laundry. Cast iron railings attached to left and right of "Hakewill Hall" and "The Stables" enclose fourth side of the courtyard. Interior of "The Stables" retains some loosebox fittings. Built to serve Dingley Hall (q.v.).
