Details
PITCHFORD C.P. PITCHFORD SJ 5204 - 5304 12/138 Forecourt retaining - wall adjoining Pitchford Hall to north-east GV II Forecourt retaining wall. 1870's and 1880's, probably by George Devey (1820-86). Squared and thinly coursed red sandstone. Wide concave curve, returned to the south; approximately 32 metres long and 3-4 metres high. 7 large buttresses with chamfered tops and square end pier north. The wall retains the forecourt above the Row Brook to the east and probably dates from the time of Devey's work at Pitchford Hall when the main entrance was moved from the south to the north. Visually important to the setting of the house. Included for group value.
