Cottage
- II
Two houses. Possible medieval origins. Sturt House is mid C18, extended c.1880,
Coursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roof; left end stack of stone
finished in brick. 2-extended to 3-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window
range. Flat stone hood over central C20 door. Timber and stone lintels over C20
sashes; round window over door; gabled roof dormers. c.1880 extension to rear
and right bay, with brick dressings to rear. Sturt House Cottage to left of
similar materials: mostly late C18/early C19 one-storey and attic range.
Interior: entrance from Sturt House in cellar beneath Sturt House Cottage.
Ancient cellar, reputed to be C14, of coursed limestone forming pointed-arched
vault.
