RAMSDEN HIGH STREET SP3515 (South-west side) 18/98 Wychwood Cottage

GV II

Cottage. Circa 1700 with late C18 or early C19 addition. Coursed limestone rubble, with thatched and slate roof. Two-unit end lobby-entry -plan with one-unit addition; sited at right angles to road. Two storeys. South-east front: integral brick end stacks and stone ridge stack off-centre to right with brick top. Three-window front; mainly 2-light small-paned wooden casements with wooden lintel (ground-floor fixed-light window to left). C20 boarded door between first and second windows off-centre to right, with C20 hipped-roofed porch. Evidence of possible former doorway to left (now window) and possible former window to its right (see straight joints). Wooden tie in wall above doorway (possible wooden lintel of former first-floor window). One-storey outbuilding adjoining to right. Interior: left-hand part with chamfered spine beam and joists, and stone and tile floor. Altered old fireplace to right with cupboard to left (curved wall inside, possible evidence of former old staircase).
