ASH TR 2858 THE STREET (south side) 10/74 Chilton House 11.10.63 GV II*
House. Late C17. Red brick and plain tiled roof. Two storeys and attic on moulded plinth with discontinuous plat band and brick eaves cornice to hipped roof with 2 hipped dormers and stack to rear left and to right. Regular fenestration of 5 cross windows on first floor and 4 on ground floor all with flat arched heads. Central C18 door of 6 raised and fielded panels and semi-circular fanlight with mouchette tracery with open hood on fluted pilaster. Single storey extension with one cross window to left. Left return rendered and channelled with parapet. Interior: open well staircase with turned newels but unturned balusters, ramped hand rail and ramped dado panelling, Bolection moulded panelling in some rooms. Various original fittings and doors. C17 wooden chimney piece, 2 tiers of arcading on heavily enriched brackets. Some heavy timber partitions may indicate an earlier framed building incorporated in later structure.
