HOPTON CASTLE

II
Cottage. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed
with rendered and painted brick infill on rubblestone plinth; corrugated
iron roof, hipped to right of lower extension to right. Original 2-
cell plan extended to right in mid-to late C17. One storey and attic.
Framing: square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate to main part and 2
large square panels to 2-bay addition; v-struts from collar to prominent
gabled half-dormer. This has C19 cast-iron fixed light window to left
and casement to right. 2 similar casements to ground floor and boarded
door to far right. Addition has C19 casement to left and C20 casement
to right. Integral roughcast end stack immediately behind ridge and
directly above entrance to main part. Framing renewed to left gable
end. Interior. Inspection not possible at time of resurvey (August
1986) but likely to be of interest.
