Cwm Lane Cottage

II

Cottage. Mid-C17 with eaves raised in late C18; later additions and
alterations. Timber framed with roughcast infill on rubblestone plinth;
machine tile roof. Original 2-cell plan with eaves raised in C18. 2
storeys. Framing: slightly irregular square and rectangular panels, 2
from cill to original wall-plate, with short straight tension braces to
front and 3 more regular panels to right gable end, which has original
queen-strut truss with upper and lower collars and raking struts from
upper collar visible. One rectangular panel to raising of eaves.
Uncoursed limestone rubble to left gable end. Windows to left and right
of central C20 half-glazed door under contemporary porch with glazed outer
door; C19 casements directly below eaves and C20 casements to ground floor.
Prominent stepped external end stack with red brick capping to left.
Interior: not inspected but said to have chamfered ceiling beams to ground
floor.
