20/54 Hermitage Farmhouse - GV II
Farmhouse. Early to mid-C17 with mid-C18 partial remodelling and mid- to late C19 alterations and additions. Timber framed with painted brick nogging, refaced in painted C18 brick to west and partly underbuilt and extended in painted C19 brick; plain tile roofs. Framing: square panels, with closely-spaced uprights beneath first-floor window, L-plan; one framed bay with flush gabled cross wing to west of 2 framed bays. 2 storeys. South front (at right-angles to road): central brick ridge stack and external brick end stack to right. Cross wing gables with C19 scalloped barge boards and finials. 2 windows; C19 and C20 two- and 3-light wooden casements. Central C20 boarded door and C19 gabled wooden porch with scalloped barge boards and finial. Exposed truss in left-hand gable with 2 collars and queen struts. Salop fire insurance plate above left-hand first-floor window. C19 additions to right with dentil brick eaves cornice and sashes. Left-hand return front (west): C18 refacing. 3 bays; horizontal-sliding glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, that in centre on ground floor replaced with late C20 wooden casement; blind windows in left-hand bay and on ground floor to right. Lean-to additions in angle at rear. Rear gable has exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts. Interior not inspected.
