9/59 Besford Grange Farmhouse 6.5.75 and attached railings (formerly listed as Besford Grange)
GV II
Farmhouse and attached railings. Late C18 with late C20 alterations at rear. Red brick with plain tile roofs. L-plan. 2 storeys. Toothed and dentil brick eaves cornice and parapeted gable ends with moulded stone kneelers and stone copings. External brick end stacks. 3 bays; glazing bar sashes with gauged brick heads and painted stone lintels. Central door with 8 raised and fielded panels, lugged moulded architrave, radial fanlight and open triangular-pedimented hood on scrolled brackets. Rear wing reduced in length in C20, with parapeted gable end and external brick lateral stack. C20 lean-to in angle. Adjoining wall and railings: brick wall with stone coping attached to right. Railings to front; low brick wall with stone coping, plain railings, square-section standards with finials and stanchions, and square brick end piers with pyramidal stone caps. Interior: C18 staircase, altered in late C20; formerly dog-leg, now one flight with landings; open string, turned balusters (2 per tread), ramped moulded handrail, curtail with turned foot newel, and ramped wainscot panelling. Radial fanlight over passage adjacent to staircase. Dentil cornice in left-hand ground-floor room. Doors with 6 raised and fielded panels and moulded architraves.
